About the institute
Chartered in 2002 as the University of Central Punjab UCP was among the first private sector universities in the Punjab which acquired the status of a degree awarding institution. In October 1999 upon receipt of No Objection Certificate from Government of the Punjab, Punjab College offered courses in Management Studies, Information Technology, Commerce and Law through its principal constituents i.e. Punjab College of Business Administration (PCBA), Punjab Institute of Computer Sciences (PICS), Punjab College of Commerce (PCC), Punjab Law College (PLC) and Punjab College of Information Technology (PCIT), all situated in Lahore. In 2010, when the university built its new state of the art campus, these colleges were restructured as faculties of the University. UCP now has following faculties: Faculty of Management Studies: 1. School of Accounting and Finance Faculty of Information Technology Faculty of Engineering Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences Faculty of Pharmacy School of Media & Communication Studies Faculty of Life Sciences Faculty of Sciences Academics: University of Central Punjab offers more than 60 educational programs in the fields of business administration, management sciences, arts and social sciences, information technology, engineering, life science and pharmaceutical sciences. The curriculum offer students an opportunity for the pursuance of their future goals. Each faculty offers a range of programs and a variety of possibilities for exploring abilities and talents. The campus life provides you an opportunity to collaborate and interact with other students that prepare you for the practical life after university years. Faculty and Staff: University of Central Punjab is proud to have a large fraternity of PhDs, MS/MPhil and Master's degree holders as our faculty and staff members. UCP has more than 320 highly qualified and experienced faculty members in their respective fields of study. Many of them are qualified from abroad and have taught in foreign universities. Majority have published research papers in national and international journals of impact factor. They are truly dedicated to their profession and provide guidance, care and support that students need from them. The experience and dedication of our faculty members makes students learning experience the most rewarding. Infrastructure: Fully coeducational since 1999, UCP now offers high quality education to more than 8500 students. The University offers everything students need to develop and succeed in their academic and professional lives. To make the learning experience enjoyable and fulfilling, students are provided with cutting edge facilities and infrastructure. In its state of the art infrastructure, UCP has built more than 40 labs for the Engineering and Sciences department which provide latest and highly sophisticated equipment. Computer Labs house more than 1300 advanced computers. In addition, Instrumentation and Measurement Lab, Telecommunication Engineering Lab, Computer Engineering Lab, Data Communication and Networking Lab are set up to provide engineering students an opportunity for hands-on experience. Classrooms are air-conditioned and fully equipped with multimedia projectors to facilitate teaching process. Wi-Fi facility with a bandwidth of more than 150 MBs is available around the clock on the campus. Students have uninterrupted access to the internet that allow them to search information and conduct research anywhere on the campus. Free use of the computer labs is also available along with the technical assistance. UCP has an on-campus bookstore, a ladies lounge, cafeteria and food street for the convenience of students, faculty and staff. A state-of-the-art auditorium, digital library, executive lounge for permanent and visiting faculty members, a swimming pool and well equipped gymnasium deserve a special mention and are hallmarks of the UCP Campus. Directorate and Offices at UCP: UCP has established a number of directorates and offices to support the teaching, learning and research since a student intends to join to a lifelong relationship as an alumni. A few of these are: Quality Enhancement Cell: Quality Enhancement cell has a full time Director and Assistant Director in order to raise the quality across the university so that UCP is recognized as a prestigious university for its high academic standards, at national and international level. Quality Enhancement Cell acts as a governing body for all the quality related activities and initiatives at UCP. The Quality Enhancement Cell also acts as a focal point for the facilitation of the implementation of HEC prescribed standards and international quality standards to continuously enhance the level of teaching, learning and research. Quality Enhancement Cell has been acting as "catalyst body" to help expedite the quality implementation and attain new standards of excellence for UCP. Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization: University of Central Punjab in line with the HEC has established office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC). The objective of the establishment of the (ORIC) at UCP is to efficiently and effectively develop, expand, enhance and manage the university's research programs and to link research activities directly to the educational, social and economic priorities of the university and its broader community. The ORIC at UCP shall be responsible for assuring the quality of research reflects the highest international standards and advances the stature of the university among the world's best research institutions. Directorate of Research: University of Central Punjab has established a Directorate of Research to promote research culture at UCP. The directorate organizes workshops, trainings and mentoring of the faculty and students to publish papers in conferences and research journals. Placement and Promotion: Directorate of Placement and Promotion at UCP focus on facilitating the students with job placements in the quickest possible time. We are aiming to create 2 job opportunities for our graduating students. The directorate is working both for the fresh graduates as well as the Alumni already in the work arena. To achieve our objectives of placement, following activities are undertaken on regular basis: On Campus Recruitment Drives Advertising Job Opportunities CV Clinics & Interview Management Internships Career Fair PDCT Professional Development & Corporate Training Seminars & Workshops Study Tours HR Meet-ups Placements & Promotions also plays a vital role in networking and relationship building with the corporate sector. Student Council: Student Council office at UCP has been established to oversee, administer and support all the societies operating in UCP. The members have been carefully chosen and they exhibit the best of practices to put forth good examples of character, effort and honesty. Library: These is a purpose built library with a space of 19,700 square feet, encompassing seating capacity for more than 700 students. Elevator service has been solely reserved for students to give them easy access to library from ground floor to fifth floor. UCP library maintains a collection of more than 40000 books pertaining to different disciplines. It subscribes to a number of print journals and electronic databases. VIS: A volunteer in Service (VIS) was envisioned by Honorable Chairman Mian Amer Mahmood with a vision to develop a society with Social Responsible Citizens (SRCs) who are self-starters in terms of welfare and social development. VIS Department was established in March 2007. The program aims to give the youth a view of the flipside of this world that's worlds apart from the one they were brought up in. Through this program, each student has to perform 65 hours of volunteer work/ community service, and this is made a degree requirement at UCP. Further details are available at UCP website
